Botanical PaperWorks' plantable paper is "tree-free", so that no trees were cut down to make this plantable paper. The base fiber is cotton or 100% post-consumer waste. And the paper is made with pure North American wildflower seeds by skilled papermakers paid a living wage in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada).

Paper FAQs
What is plantable paper?
- Plantable paper is special handmade paper embedded with wildflower seeds. When the paper is planted in a pot of soil, wildflowers will grow from the paper. Please note that because plantable paper is made by hand, there may be a be slight variation in the thickness from sheet to sheet. Due to the 100% post-consumer waste fibre content a slight variation in the shade of the paper may also occur.
How to do you plant Plantable seed paper?
- To plant Plantable seed paper, prepare a pot of soil or small patch of garden. Place plantable on top and cover with a thin layer of soil. Water well and give plenty of sunshine. Keep moist during germination.
What seeds are contained in the Plantable Paper mix?
- Plantable seed paper contains the highest-quality mix of annuals and perennial seeds including:
- Bird's Eye
- Clarkia
- NEW Black Eyed Susan (please note that some of our products may still contain Coreopsis)
- Poppy
- Catchfly
- Snap Dragon
What kinds of pen can be used when writing on handmade paper?
- Botanical PaperWorks handmade paper is sufficiently water resistant for writing with most types of writing instruments, including calligraphy pens. You can test a new pen on the corner of a piece of paper to see if it bleeds.
Is the handmade paper fragile?
- The handmade paper at Botanical PaperWorks is specially made to be strong. We use high-quality beating equipment, a custom-built press to bond fibers together and a special drying system to apply pressure to the paper for an additional 24 hours to complete the bonding of the fibers. These production steps produce a smooth, flat and strong piece of handmade paper.
Can the handmade envelopes be mailed?
- Absolutely! Envelopes have been sent through mailing tests which show that the handmade envelopes hold up as well as machine-made envelopes. They are a beautiful addition to a handmade invitation.
Is the handmade paper tree-free?
- Botanical PaperWorks paper is made with post consumer waste fibers, cotton remnants or abaca, a renewable leaf fiber.
Ordering FAQs
I'd like to change the text/colors, but don't see this as an option. How can I customize?
- Please be sure to read the Description text on each product page. Some products are sold with designer-recommended colors/fonts. However, in most situations we can accommodate color or font change requests. Please contact us with your requirements. Non-standard customizations will be subject to a nominal fee.
I want to use your Card Customizer to proof my artwork, but didn't see a link. How can I do this?
- We currently do not have Botanical PaperWorks products available for preview with the Card Customizer. We will, however, create a free digital proof for your review.
How can I preview my design with my personalized text?
- You will receive a proof of the layout(s) by email for you to preview before the order is sent to print, based on the text and instructions you provide when you place your order. You will receive your proof within 2-3 business days from the time you order.
How long will it take to receive my order?
- Printed products with customized text will ship within one to two weeks after proof approval. Shipping transit times depend on your location, and should be added to the 1-2 weeks for production times. Favors ship within one week.
Where will my order ship from?
- The Botanical PaperWorks production facility is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Product shipped to the United States arrives tax-free and duty-free. We take care of the customs documents and freight arrangements. All you need to do is place your order and we take care of the rest!
